Design Like a Girl Mentor Program

Design Like a Girl is open to young people between the ages of 11-14 to learn first-hand about careers from professional women from the architecture, construction, and engineering fields.  In each themed workshop, participants will go on a local field trip and come back to the District Architecture Center to design and build a three-dimensional structure.  The four workshop dates coincide with DCPS’s no school days on Mondays and Fridays.

The dates of the workshops:

  • Friday, October 11, 2024 - Fundamentals of Architecture
  • Monday, November 4, 2024 - Engineering & Construction
  • Friday, January 17, 2025 - Interior Architecture: Sustainable & Biophilic Design
  • Monday, April 7, 2025 - Landscape Architecture

Created in 2015, the goal of the Design Like a Girl Mentor Program is to promote diversity and inclusion within the industry. WAF hopes to open a door that might eventually lead to greater equity and representation in the profession.

Spaces are limited to 12 participants.
Cost: $125 for all 4 workshops
