The Urban Design Committee is dedicated to enhancing the urban environment in Washington D.C., and the greater DMV area. Through discussions, productive dialogue, and competitions, we explore how urban design can bring about meaningful change in our cities, suburbs, and rural areas through our advocacy and efforts. In our respective practices, we strive to create vibrant destinations—places where people genuinely want to be—designed with the human scale in mind and use the committee to elevate this work. Urban design serves as a bridge between landscape architecture, urban planning, and architecture. We aim to elevate the significance of effective urban design and learn from the consequences of when it is done poorly. We emphasize the need to address urban design at every stage of the design process while striving to incorporate the AIA Framework for Design Excellence principles into our daily practices.
