About
- The mission of the DCHRC is to identify, understand, and promote the stewardship of the architectural heritage and cultural landscape within the District of Columbia. DCHRC is engaged in promoting the role of historic preservation, restoration, rehabilitation, and adaptive use within the profession through the development of information and knowledge among members, allied professional organizations, and the public.
- To provide education and learning opportunities for those wanting to get into the field of Historic Preservation.
- To expand career development within Historic Preservation (HP) and partner with EAC and academia.
- To advocate for HP policies and strengthen relationships with the government sector.
- To increase visibility of local historically significant buildings and landmarks, with a focus on equity in all of the DC's wards.
Goals
- Create a Happy Hour/Networking event, to announce the reboot of the HRC and hosted either the DAC or one of the firms represented by our committee members. This event may also have displays of topics and/or sponsors. Potentially invite sister HP organizations (from other Chapters, DCPL, APT, etc.)
- Co-host local tours highlighting each Ward throughout National Preservation Month, in collaboration with the AIA DC Chapter plans and other sister organizations.
- Host an engaging discussion/tour focused on Adaptive Reuse, potential topic- an office building converted into residential.
- Create a hands-on activity/workshop. Potential collaboration with APT-DC and Prosoco - historic headstone cleaning or workshop.
