Exhibition Opening- Built to Adorn: Jewelry and the Architecture of DC

Join us to celebrate the opening of our latest exhibition, Built to Adorn: Jewelry and the Architecture of DC.

This exhibition illuminates unique jewelry pieces whose designs draw inspiration from the city’s iconic buildings and monuments. The pieces in this exhibition reflect the rich history, intricate details, and cultural significance of DC's architectural landscape, transforming familiar structures into wearable art. Several of these jewelry pieces were created by world-renowned architects, while others were inspired by the style of significant architects, such as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. A handful of the pieces in the exhibition were crafted by talented jewelry designers who simply found inspiration in particular architectural elements of DC buildings. Join us to explore how these stunning creations celebrate the beauty of the city through the lens of wearable craftmanship and design.

We welcome your presence at this opening and invite you to navigate through the multitude of pieces featured and learn more about the intersection of jewelry and architecture. Drinks and light hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Catering provided by Simply Fresh Events.

Making the Right Choice: Window Wall, Curtain Wall, or Storefront

While window wall, curtain wall, and storefront systems may serve a similar purpose, they each offer a wide range of unique characteristics and varying aesthetics. From thermal and acoustical variances to schedule and cost differences, choosing the right one for your project can make the difference between a successful application or potential construction and performance issues.

This course is designed to expand your understanding of basic aluminum glazing systems, specifically storefront, window wall, and curtain wall systems. After completing this course, you will be able to effectively select the appropriate aluminum glazing system for your project to achieve the desired aesthetics while providing optimal performance.

Schedule:

NOTE Event begins at 6pm sharp, registration opens at 5:30pm EST

  • 5:30pm - 6pm Guest Arrival
  • 6pm - 7pm Presentation
  • 7pm - 8pm Networking Hour (snacks and drinks will be provided)

Learning Objectives:

  • Have a basic understanding of typical storefront, window wall, and curtain wall systems.
  • Understand the differences between glazing systems.
  • Understand the issues to consider when selecting a system for a specific application.
  • Understand standard industry structural requirements, performance criteria, aesthetic conditions, and water control.

HSW Justification:

Glazing systems are critical to building performance and safety of occupants. Understanding system selection can help create healthy environments, provide occupant safety at building perimeters, and promote efficient thermal performance.
