In the field of interior design, the type of work one practices normally falls into one of two categories- residential or commercial. For either, every design project comes with a unique set of challenges and goals so it is always important to remain adaptable; or as SR/A says "Versatile." As a commercial design firm, we see these challenges as opportunities to problem solve and to create versatile solutions that will positively impact the end-users for years down the line. An obstacle that long-term construction projects often face is that the designers are introduced to a project far ahead of the official install date. For this "Staying Versatile in Design" presentation, we will be using a completed multi-family design project in Silver Spring, MD that began in 2014. Solaire 8250, the building, finally opened this past spring so for us, starting many years in-advance required forward-thinking. We would love to educate other designers on this topic!
Learning Objectives: After attending this presentation, participants will be able to: Identify various client briefing and project kick-off procedures to ensure efficient processes for future production; Identify best practices to maximizing a building's features longevity with Space Planning and site surveys; Grasp a better workflow for creating design aesthetics in various styles, to suit different needs and tastes of clients and end-users; and walk away with 5 timeless and useful tips and tricks to adding WOW factor to any interior space; SR/A style.
