This presentation offers an in-depth review of essential design strategies and requirements for modular projects and how to achieve a successful design for permitting as well as manufacturing and field construction. Dean Dalvit will provide critical “dos and don'ts” using case studies as examples for each phase of architecture and engineering. He will also explore opportunities for standardizing designs to serve all stakeholders in offsite construction. This session is for anyone just starting out in modular development as well as seasoned industry veterans with an objective to help advance and innovate the marriage of offsite construction techniques with the traditional process of design, permitting, and field construction.

Dean is a licensed Architect as well as a Professional Engineer, and the founder of EVstudio. Since 2006 when EVstudio was formed, Dean has been directly involved in the design of thousands of residential units and tens of millions of square feet of residential and commercial buildings. He takes an integrated multidisciplinary approach to all of his projects. Dean seamlessly blends architectural design with practical engineering that results in visually stunning, cost effective, and efficient, sustainable designs. He also has a history of successfully navigating complex entitlements processes, presenting to community groups and easing projects and clients through sometimes difficult public processes.

Dean has worked on offsite construction projects for the entirety of EVstudio’s existence and fully volumetric modular design for over a decade, forming the EVolution Studio, a dedicated A/E design Studio focused exclusively on offsite design. Dean spends much of his time innovating in Building Technology and is the holder of trademarks and patents pending as a Building Technology pioneer for Reversible Design (TM) as well as Alt-Mod (TM). Additionally, Dean has served as a peer reviewer for National Laboratory of the Rockies technical articles on off-site construction, building performance, and sustainability, and regularly collaborates with the NLR team.

Dean has spoken at industry events nationwide, including multiple appearances at The International Builder’s Show and the World of Modular on topics ranging from design for resiliency, building performance, building technology, sustainability, and design for manufacturing.
