This course will explore recent trends in smart home technology for residential construction with a specific focus on windows and doors. We will look at the wide range of options available to architects designing a smart home, and how these choices can impact the health, safety, well-being and piece-of-mind of occupants. Lastly, we will discuss how architects can incorporate home automation into their design process and how collaboration with smart home integrators can be beneficial to entire project team. We will have forum for questions and answers along with interchange of ideas. We at Marvin Windows and Doors value member's time and attendance.
Presenter Bio: James Hughes is a Senior Architectural Project Manager serving the Greater Washington, DC metropolitan area. In his role, he provides specification support and technical sales expertise to architects, designers, builders, and commercial project teams, delivering technical product guidance and customized design solutions for project-specific window and door applications.
With more than 30 years of experience in the fenestration and façade industry, James has developed extensive expertise in helping project teams navigate complex design challenges. He is particularly passionate about historic renovation projects, where he enjoys combining technical knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving skills to preserve architectural character while meeting modern performance requirements.
Throughout his career, James has built a reputation as a trusted resource for design professionals, offering practical solutions that support successful project outcomes from concept through completion.
Outside of work, Jim enjoys spending quality time with his grandchildren and pursuing his passion for motorcycle riding.
