dp+partners, llc is a full-service minority architectural design firm working primarily in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The firm has provided design services for projects located in New York, NY, San Francisco/Sacramento, California and Baltimore, MD. The firm has obtained certifications from Washington, DC CBE, WMATA and Maryland MDOT.
History
dp+partners’ Danny Williams and Anthony Brown were part of the award-winning firm Devrouax+ Purnell Architects-Planners, PC for the past twenty eight years. The firm enjoyed great success for many years and its management and design philosophy was respected throughout the design and development community. The sudden passing of principal, Paul Devrouax in 2010 dealt us an emotional blow. Like most architectural firms during the past economic recession, we were forced to reevaluate. Unlike many firms, we used the opportunity to re-think our business model and refine our focus. Today’s dp+partners is a leaner organization than Devrouax + Purnell but we are enormously proud of our legacy and of the high standards that we continue to employ and build upon. The projects listed in our current portfolio represent the design ideas of Anthony Brown, the project management of Danny Williams and the oversight of our construction tsar Marc Doswell.
Experience
The dp+partners team has wide-ranging and specialized experience. Our team is comprised LEED Accredited Professionals with the comprehensive in-house capabilities to provide project management, architectural design, programming, master planning, historic preservation, interior
space planning and design, animation, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and computer-aided design/drafting (CADD). Affiliations include organizations such as the American Institute of Architects, the National Organization of Minority Architects, and the DC Preservation League just to name a few.
Our client list is diverse with clients ranging from federal and local government agencies and municipalities to private developers, commercial, and corporate clients. The designs of dp+partners include many of the region’s iconic structures, such as the Reeves Municipal Center, The City Museum, the PEPCO and Freddie Mac Corporate Headquarters buildings, the Verizon Center (MCI Center), the Washington National’s Baseball Stadium, and the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. We have extensive experience designing transit facilities, office buildings, residential, new and renovated educational and recreational/sports facilities. And we have the ability to turn a historic facility into modernized space while maintaining the historic
integrity of the building; the Janney Elementary School is one example we’re particularly proud of. The project involved the renovation of a historic landmark into a contemporary, LEED-certified educational facility, and led to dp+partners winning the AIA/DC Design Excellence award. Although we are proud of professional recognition, we are most gratified when we hear from clients that their dp+partners designed space is functional, efficient and aesthetically satisfying.
Design Philosophy
We approach every building project on its own terms, drawing inspiration less from formal or theoretical preconceptions than from particularities of place and program. This approach stems from the conviction that successful environments of lasting value can be achieved only when individual building projects reflect a concern for the specific physical and cultural contexts in which they occur. A central theme consistently evident in our built works is the conception of architecture as an art of place making — an art embodying above all else a concern for the quality of public space and public life.
Sustainable Design
Fundamental to the design process is the thorough consideration and integration of regionally
appropriate and technologically advanced design solutions, which provide energy efficient and
socially responsible responses to the diverse range of issues integral to a work of architecture. We maintain a commitment to incorporating the principles of sustainable design as a guiding component of the design process, regularly working with consultants to achieve spaces that are environmentally responsible. Several notable projects in our portfolio point to this commitment, including the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy LEED Gold, Progression Place LEED Silver, Washington Nationals Baseball Stadium LEED Silver, Department of Employment Services LEED Silver, and Janney Elementary School LEED Silver.
