DLR Group’s DC Office: 20+ Years in the Making
Born in 1998, DLR Group’s Washington, DC practice primarily encompasses design for local and federal government sector clients throughout the District and its surrounding areas. The studio, located in the heart of the District among many iconic structures, reflects the diversity of the city’s architecture in its portfolio. Given its high-profile location, this office specializes in complicated building types that require navigating a complex regulatory landscape, including civic, courts, detention, higher education, K-12 education, multi-family housing, museums, performing arts, and workplace.
Reviving the District’s Historic Fabric. Structures across the District incorporate influences from around the world that span many decades. DLR Group’s DC office has modernized many of these historic buildings, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum's Renwick Gallery, the Library of Congress Conservation Lab, Anacostia High School, and Engine Company #14.
Reinventing Institutions as Community Anchors. Civic and educational buildings designed in our DC office encourage the health and wellness of our local communities and contribute significantly to improving educational experiences and outcomes for students. Examples of local award-winning work include the Good Hope Neighborhood Recreation Center, Maury Elementary School, Southern Regional Technology and Recreation Center, and The Triumph short term family housing facility.
Reinvigorating Communities through Culture and Performance. DLR Group’s DC office is dedicated to thoughtfully contributing to the District’s cultural fabric, as well as creating places that convey our collective heritage. Key projects from across the region include the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown and Chesterfield Performing Arts Center. Extending beyond the Washington Metropolitan Area is our master planning and subsequent implementation efforts for the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
